Communications Officer, blogger

What is your career path, your accomplishments?
Already having a diploma in publicity in my possession, I wanted to be able to combine fashion and communications in my future career.

I therefore decided to move to Montreal, since I’m originally from Gatineau, to study in one of the best fashion schools in Canada – LaSalle College. After studying for three years in Fashion Marketing, I quickly found a job at the head office of the Aldo Group as a Purchase Order Administrator.

After gaining two years’ experience, I decided communications would be a better option for my professional career and that fashion would be a side job and a way to express my creativity. I then moved back to Gatineau and found my dream job working in communications.

I presently work for the Government of Canada and I’m in charge of Social Media, which is very different to the “boring” jobs people think about when they talk of government work.

I also decided to create my own fashion blog in order to showcase my style, uniqueness and love for fashion.

Since the Fashion Marketing course includes many different aspects such as design, marketing, communications, fashion (obviously) and much more, it has helped me to implement these skills acquired during my three years of schooling at LaSalle College and also to create my own website www.inspiredbyrose.com.

What are the essential qualities required to succeed in the fashion world?
Fashion is a hard domain to break into and excel. In order to grow in the fashion industry, you have to be passionate and determined. LaSalle College gave me all the skills I needed to be able to succeed on my own.

That being said, my website Inspired by Rose has created a sense of accomplishment. I never thought my website would come with so many opportunities, including my current job, my assistant stylist role and the opportunity to represent brands such as VERO MODA and Estrela Bijoux.

Finally, the best advice I can give someone who wants to study in fashion at LaSalle College is: go for it! It will not only bring you the knowledge and skills needed in fashion but also in many different areas. The opportunities are infinite and you’ll have the chance to combine many aspects of your passions.
