Student Direct Stream (SDS)

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) is an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) program aiming to speed up the Student Permit application process for students coming from China, India, Vietnam and the Philippines.

To qualify for SDS, applicants need to meet additional requirements, in particular language levels that are stricter than regular study permit requirements. Students who do not have all of the additional information required for SDS can apply through the regular study permit application process, either online or at a Visa Application Centre.

Below are the minimum eligibility criteria to qualify for an SPP Canadian study permit:

  • Provide proof that you graduated from a Canadian curriculum high school or a language test form showing a
  • Undergo a medical examination before submitting your application.
  • Provide a copy of the receipt from the College confirming payment of the tuition fees for the first year of study.
  • Submit a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution for $10,000 to cover living expenses for your first year.

At present, Scotiabank and ICICI Bank Canada are the only participating Canadian financial institutions.

Persons who have previously been refused any Canadian study permit application are not eligible to apply under SPP.
