On March 7 and 8, video gaming students from LaSalle College allowed the general public to test out five of their gaming creations at the Grand Événement Montréal Joue which took place at the Théâtre Paradoxe. Visitors were encouraged to demo the student’s games, entitled Little Bean, Child’s Play, Wolfe Hunter, DreadWind and Little Demon.

Creatively combining video games and board games, this festival, which is now in its eighth year, invites Montréal locals to take part in more than 300 fun and exciting activities. The Grand Événement Montréal Joue is by far the most anticipated event of the festival and allows over 2,200 visitors to discover the best in Montréal gaming.

Held in Montréal CoWork offices from February 21 to 23, the Game Jam competition blurs the lines between video games and board games.

Game Jam participants are given 48 hours to create a new game that combines elements from both forms of gaming. They must also find unique ways to incorporate mobile technology. This year, the last criterion was that the game had to be "Hero/heroine" themed.

Two teams of Video Game Programming students proudly represented LaSalle College: teams Code Crew and Watch Your Language. Under the supervision of a teacher, they designed and created two games which they presented to a panel of industry professionals.

Team Code Crew was given the "Met the criteria" prize for their game Final Quest, while team Watch Your Language was awarded the "Embodied the theme" prize for their game War Hero. Congratulations to these two teams for expertly combining creativity and technology!
