Students in their final year of the Business Management program went into pitch mode to present their innovative business projects before a panel composed of industry personalities at the CEO2019 event.

Once again, they displayed entrepreneurial spirit, one of LaSalle College’s educational pillars.

The competition, inspired by CBC’s Dragons’ Den TV show, took place in front of an enthusiastic audience in Jean-Paul Morin Hall on April 11.

Following a semifinal round held the previous week, six finalist groups (out of the 18 competing) were announced the evening of the event, just before everyone went on stage.

The graduates had to use all the skills learned during the three-year program as they tried to sway the jury using market research, budget projections, marketing plans and more.

After the pitch, contestants answered questions from the jury, which was composed of:
  • Lennie Moreno (Sofdesk founder and CEO)
  • Rita Elias (Maison Elama founder)
  • Lorne Rubin (Paramount Financial Services president)
  • Olena Vasylchenko (Director of Business Systems and Performance at International Air Transport Association)
  • Michael Barkai (consultant)

First place was awarded to the Aldora team, whose idea for a sensory table for children with autism was developed during the Bootcamp event, a business idea incubator. The $900 cash prize, as well as valuable advice from the jury, will definitely give them the boost they need to launch their company.

Second place (and $700) went to the Bon Petit team, who presented an idea for customized food boxes for pets. Third place, along with a $400 award, was given to the WeBelong team, who was offering an integration service for international students.

The Trust and Taste team, offering allergen-free food solution, took home the honorable mention.

Congratulations to the two other teams who made it to the finals, Dépôt C and ProxSound, as well as to all the 18 participating teams!
