Our Origins

  • In the aftermath of the Second World War, 1950s Quebec is both rooted in a conservative vision of the world and on the verge of radical change. At the dawn of the Quiet Revolution, Quebec will soon open its horizons to the vast possibilities offered by its thriving international ambitions, but the 1967 World’s Fair in Montreal is still relatively far off.

In the meantime, after a successful career training sales assistants, Jean-Paul Morin decides to found a new type of school that directly meets labor market demands.

LaSalle Commercial College opens its doors in a rented space above a hardware store in Montreal - a space that would soon become too small. From the start, it is decided that the College will be multilingual.

  • Jean-Paul Morin takes the initiative and LaSalle College is the very first to hold an "open house” in Montreal. The College also becomes the first to print a color ad and do television advertising.

  • Three years after the creation of LaSalle Commercial College, the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec establishes the network of cégeps and colleges: vocational and pre-university training schools. This is a first in Canada.

  • The Ministère de l’ Éducation du Québec recognizes LaSalle College as the “Centre specialisé de la mode”.

  • The first LaSalle College International opens in Casablanca, Morocco. This marks the beginning of LaSalle International, which will later become LCI Education.

  • The École supérieure de mode de Montréal (ÉSMM) is created in partnership with LaSalle College and Université de Québec à Montréal (UQAM). This partnership now makes it possible to obtain a bachelor's degree in fashion design in Canada.

  • LaSalle College opens an e-learning school, which offers online learning solutions.

  • LaSalle College expanded its program offering by integrating all of Inter-Dec College's programs under its banner.

  • The LCI Education network, of which LaSalle College is a part, is named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.
