Global Issues and Asian Cultures Profile
The double DEC in Social Sciences and Creative Arts is a pre-university program for those who wish to open their general knowledge base. Students will examine global issues through Western and Asian paradigms and complete a study trip abroad.
Studies in a globalized world
Through the in-depth study of certain Oriental cultures, students will effectively interpret issues of a political, religious and historical nature. Making sense of current events is also an inevitable outcome.
Through the double DEC’s interpretive framework, students will situate themselves within the contemporary context of certain Oriental cultures and examine the socio-economic realities of the most influential East Asian countries.
Learn Mandarin and study abroad
Students will learn Mandarin and complete this double DEC with a study trip to China, at one of LaSalle International’s partner universities. Simultaneously, students will develop their cultural sensitivity to various forms of artistic expression from this part of the world.
Pre-university studies that take you far
At the end of this program, students will be able to integrate and transfer their knowledge of political, historical, social and cultural East Asian phenomena within the context determined by globalization and trade between Canada and this region. Ultimately, they will be able to think critically about the concept of interculturalism and defend their reasoning in both English and French.
