Fashion Design alumni Wiwa showed her 2019 spring/summer collection at New York Fashion Week and Vancouver Fashion Week.
The Algerian-born designer launched her company Widi’z Élégance in 2015, soon after graduating in Fashion Design from LaSalle College.
After starting her career as a teacher, she focused on fashion design, having always been partial to drawing and painting: “I would draw faces everywhere with all sorts of expressions, even in my school notebooks—to the annoyance of my teachers.”
First drawn in by fashion design courses offered at LaSalle College, she was pleased to discover classes in fashion history, creativity and fabric manipulation. “I was very happy—I had finally found my place.”
Wanting a new challenge, she sent sketches of her 2019 spring/summer collection, “Effervescent Soul,” to New York Fashion Week organizers.
She was accepted and will be showing on September 8 at Roosevelt Hotel in New York, at one of the four biggest fashion weeks in the world.
Meanwhile, she has also been invited to participate in the highly renowned Vancouver Fashion Week. She is presenting her collection on September 18 at the Art Gallery.
We wish great success to this graduate, whose career is really taking off!
