Career with Prospects: Managing Senior Citizens Homes

LaSalle College offers the Managing Senior Citizens Homes program, which leads to an Attestation of College Studies (ACS).

This training is perfect for those who already have a job and are looking for a career change, or people who already work in senior citizen housing and wish to develop more skills.

Learners acquire all of the skills they need to work in this rapidly expanding field.

A career for the future

According to the Institut de la statistique du Québec, the number of people above age 65 will double over the next 20 years.

Consequently, the demand for retirement homes will increase significantly. Over this period, 6000 rental units will be built per year, with 1000 jobs projected to be created annually*.

LaSalle College’s Managing Senior Citizens Homes program is therefore in line with the projected development and strengthening of the senior citizen housing network.

“The manager training allows for a global approach, focused on industry needs in a burgeoning field,” said the director of the International School of Hotel Management & Tourism.

A program centered on management skills

LaSalle College’s Managing Senior Citizens Homes program, taught by teachers who work in the industry, covers all of the conceptual and practical skills required in a managerial position.

In addition to being presented by trainers with ASSTAS certification (Association paritaire pour la santé et sécurité du travail des affaires sociales), the training is health and safety certified.

Graduates receive PDSB (principe de déplacement sécuritaire des bénéficiaires) cards, an undeniable asset for a resume.

Thanks to its partnerships with companies in the field and home internship programs, LaSalle College produces technologists with expertise in management processes who wish to enter a management position.

This 3-session training program is the only one of its kind in Quebec, and is offered at night: a flexible choice for those who already have a job.

Career possibilities

Graduates may become residence directors; owner-operators; managers in food service, building or maintenance, care, leisure activities, etc.; housing advisors; or administrative assistants.
