The Social Awareness Day is presented by the School of Social Sciences and Education to promote awareness, societal involvement and global citizenship.

This year's theme of the day is “the post-truth era”. In 2016, the term has been named word of the year by the prestigious Oxford Dictionary. For some time, the facts have less and less impact on public opinion, compared to rumours, emotions and especially fake news. Fake news is increasingly present in the media space and has a growing influence on politics and public opinion in general.

On Friday, February 16, you are invited to attend two conferences by journalists related to this topic, followed by a discussion panel.

8:30 - L’information à l’ère des fausses nouvelles

Conference by Fabien Deglise, journalist, Le Devoir

9:30 - Sensitive News, Fragile Truth

Philippe Gohier, editor in chief, VICE Québec

10:30 - Post Factual Era: A New Role for the Media in Democracy?
